Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

In Year 2 our teacher is Miss Fryer and our Teaching Assistants are Mrs Hayton and Mrs Brett. We love working together, trying our best and being creative. In Year 2 and across Horndale, we use dojo points to help us celebrate our achievements. Some of us are also lucky enough to be picked for the School Council where we have lots of important jobs to complete in school.

In Year 2 and across Horndale, we celebrate our achievements and publish work via Seesaw. Mrs Oughton will send your child’s code home with them.

This term we will be focusing on Winter and cold countries. We will be looking at different places within the Arctic Circle and learning about what we might find there. We will also look further into Norway, a country within the Arctic Circle. Our texts for this half term link to our cold country theme and will be The Polar Bear and the Snow Cloud and Lost and Found. We will also be exploring everyday materials in Science. In Maths we will be concentrating on number, mostly addition and subtraction, before moving onto telling the time.

In the second half term, we will be looking at people who changed our lives such as Captain Cook, Rosa Parks and Thomas Edison. We will also be looking at portraits using Andy Warhol as inspiration. Some of our texts this half term are Where the Wild Things Are and Emily Brown and the Thing. In Maths we will be looking at money, fractions and division.

We have all settled back into school really well and we are looking forward to sharing some of our super work with you after a funny couple of years through the pandemic.
